Brief Curriculum Vitae

I was born in Athens, the capital and largest city of Greece, in the summer of 1980. I received the Engineering Diploma (5 years, integrated M.Sc.) in Computer Engineering and Informatics, the M.A.Sc. degree (with distinction) in Signal and Communications Processing Systems, and the Ph.D. degree (best Ph.D. thesis award) from the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department (CEID), School of Engineering (SE), University of Patras (UoP), Rio–Patras, Greece in 2003, 2005, and 2010, respectively. In January 2019, I joined the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, School of Sciences, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) (also known shortly as University of Athens), Athens, Greece and I am currently an Associate Professor for Wireless Communication Systems and Signal Processing at its Communications and Signal Processing division. I also serve as an associated faculty with ATHENA Research and Innovation Center, Athens, Greece. From April 2024, I serve as an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Illinois Chicago, Chicago, IL, USA. My research and development activities in the general areas of algorithmic design, optimization, and performance analysis for wireless communication networks with emphasis on multi-antenna transceiver hardware architectures, full duplex radios, active and passive reconfigurable metasurfaces, integrated sensing and communications, millimeter wave and THz communications, and distributed machine learning have been extensively disseminated via demos and prototypes, journal and conference publications, technical reports, contributions to standards, and intellectual property. My professional and research profiles as well as publications and citations are also available at LinkedIn, Google Scholar, Scopus, IEEE, arxiv, ResearchGate, dblp, Academia, Web of Science, and ORCID.

My research, development, and teaching career started during my undergraduate studies, where I served as a Research and Teaching Assistant with CEID's Signal Processing and Communications Laboratory. After my one year mandatory military service in Hellenic Navy, I joined the National Center for Scientific Research–"Demokritos," Athens, Greece as a Research Fellow and Ph.D. scholar of the Wireless Communications Laboratory, Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications. I have also served as a Research Collaborator for the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens, Greece, the Telecommunication Systems Research Institute, Technical University of Crete, Chania, Greece, and the Institute of Accelerating Systems and Applications, which is affiliated with NKUA and the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. I have been an Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, University of the Peloponnese, Tripolis, Greece and a Senior Researcher at the Athens Information Technology (AIT) Center for Research and Education, Athens, Greece, where I was involved with the technical management of several European research and innovation projects, and lectured several mathematics courses for the joint B.Sc. program in Computer Engineering with Aalborg University, Denmark. From November 2014 till the beginning of January 2019, I was a Senior Research Engineer at the Mathematical and Algorithmic Sciences Lab, Paris Research Center, Huawei Technologies France SASU delivering statistical signal processing and machine learning algorithms for the physical and medium access layers of the IEEE 802.11 standards' family, 5G networks, and beyond, as well as designing transceiver hardware and networking architectures and studying their fundamental performance limits. I have also served as a Collaborating Academic Staff Member for the Hellenic Open University, Athens, Greece and a Principal Researcher at the AI and Digital Science Research Center, Technology Innovation Institute, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. I have received the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Best Young Professional in Industry Award 2018, the EURASIP Best Paper Award of the Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking 2021, the IEEE Marconi Prize Paper Award in Wireless Communications 2021, the Best Paper Award from the IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM) 2021, the IEEE ComSoc Fred Ellersick Prizes 2023 and 2024, and the IEEE ComSoc Leonard G. Abraham Prize 2024.

I am currently serving, or having served, as an Editor for various IEEE, Elsevier, and ITU journals (including IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking, IEEE Communications Letters, and IEEE Wireless Communications Letters), as well as acting as a Reviewer, Member of the Technical Program Committee, and Chair for many top-level international journals and conferences on signal processing and wireless communications. I am a Senior Member of the IEEE, IEEE ComSoc, IEEE Signal Processing Society (SP), IEEE Vehicular Technology Society, IEEE Information Theory Society, EURASIP Technical Area Committee on Signal Processing for Communications and Networking (vice-chair (2022-2024); serving as chair from 2024), and a registered Professional Engineer at the Technical Chamber of Greece. For the period 2022-2024, I serve as a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE ComSoc. I am also actively involved with ComSoc's Radio Communications, Green Communications and Computing, Communication Theory, and Signal Processing and Computing for Communications technical committees, having served as Standards Liaison for each of the latter two committees for two consecutive years. I am also a member of ComSoc's emerging technology initiatives for reconfigurable intelligent surfaces and machine learning for communications, as well as of SP's integrated sensing and communication technical working group.
