Brief Curriculum Vitae

I was born in Athens, the capital and largest city of Greece, in the summer of 1980. I received the Engineering Diploma (5 years) in Computer Engineering and Informatics, the M.A.Sc. degree (with distinction) in Signal Processing and Communications, and the Ph.D. degree (best Ph.D. thesis award) from the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department (CEID), School of Engineering (SE), University of Patras (UoP), Rio–Patras, Greece in 2003, 2005, and 2010, respectively. My research and development activities in the general areas of algorithmic design, optimization, and performance analysis for wireless communication networks with emphasis on multi-antenna communication, interference management, energy harvesting, full duplex radios, millimeter wave communications, cooperative networking, physical layer security, and cognitive radios have been extensively disseminated via demos and prototypes, journal and conference publications, technical reports, and intellectual property. My professional and research profiles as well as publications and citations are also available at LinkedIn, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, dblp, Scopus, Academia, and ORCID.

In the period 2001–2005, I was Research Assistant at the Signal Processing and Communications Laboratory, CEID, SE, UoP, Rio–Patras, Greece, and during my postgraduate studies, I served as Teaching Assistant for the laboratory courses of digital communications and digital image processing and analysis. After my one year mandatory military service in Hellenic Navy, I joined the National Center for Scientific Research–"Demokritos," Athens, Greece, as Research Fellow and Ph.D. scholar of the Wireless Communications Laboratory, Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications for the period 2006–2010. From 2007–2011, I also collaborated with the National Observatory of Athens, Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing, Athens, Greece in the framework of several national and European research and development projects. During the academic summer semester of 2011, I have been an Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, University of Peloponnese, Tripolis, Greece. For the period 2011–2014, I have been a Senior Researcher at the Athens Information Technology (AIT) Center for Research and Education, Athens, Greece and a member of its Broadband Wireless and Sensor Networks Laboratory. At AIT, I have been involved with the technical management of several European research and innovation projects, and lectured several mathematics courses for the joint B.Sc. program in Computer Engineering with Aalborg University in Denmark. Within the year 2012, I also collaborated with the Telecommunication Systems Research Institute, Technical University of Crete, Chania, Greece in the framework of an ARTEMIS joint undertaking project. In parallel, during 2011–2013, I was appointed as Patent Consultant at the Pappas IP Law Office, Athens, Greece. From November 2014, I am Senior Research Engineer at the Mathematical and Algorithmic Sciences Lab, Paris Research Center, Huawei Technologies France SASU located in the borders of Boulogne-Billancourt with the 16th arrondissement of Paris delivering statistical signal processing and machine learning algorithms for the physical and medium access layers of the IEEE 802.11 standards' family, 5G networks, and beyond, as well as designing novel network architectures and studying their fundamental performance limits. At the end of 2017, I was elected Assistant Professor at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, School of Sciences, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Greece with estimated appointment date by the end of 2018.

Currently, I am serving as Editor for IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications and IEEE Communications Letters, as well as acting as Reviewer and Member of the Technical Program Committee for many top-level international journals and conferences on signal processing and wireless communications. I am Senior Member of IEEE, IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), IEEE Signal Processing Society, and registered Professional Engineer at the Technical Chamber of Greece. I am also actively involved with the ComSoc Radio Communications, Communication Theory, and Signal Processing and Communications Electronics Technical Committees, and I am serving as Standards Liaison for the latter two Committees from 2016 and 2017, respectively. From 2015, I am Member of the Expert Advisory Group of ETP NetWorld 2020.
